The Quality Care scheme involves teams of inspectors - which could be either carers or a carer plus a person with a learning disability - reviewing registered and supported living homes or services for adults with learning disabilities and/or ASC and then preparing a report highlighting good practice and areas for improvement. This scheme was developed and trialled over 2012.
The aim of the scheme is to ensure the best quality of care for people with learning disabilities/ASC to give them the chance of having the best quality of life possible and allow them to have choice and control in their lives, with the same opportunities and responsibilities and to be treated with the same dignity and respect as other citizens.
The scheme differs from 'statutory' audit schemes such as Care Quality Commission inspections which look at compliance with statutory regulations. Our teams look at such things as:
